So this thread is starting with the end of my tank. This is the last picture of my tank before I had to tear it down to have the house renovated. Everything with the corals was going well, growth was very fast but it had some problems that I will try to address in the re-boot. More about those later which I hope will be useful for others having the same problems.

This is where my fish are living at the moment. I have gone on holiday for 1.5 months until works are finished. I am 1 month into the holiday and the tank is running on auto until I return. I can watch some of the important things on three cameras and have had to instruct the builders once by video link to avert disaster.
I had to rush making it in the last 2 days before I went away due to being so busy at work I just couldn’t get the time to stabilise parameters before I left so I am worried what I will return to coral wise. I think the fish will be ok but I know corals will be stressed after the move so alk will rise at the start but i had no time to adjust due to flying out. I lost one male flame angel that was paired with a female which I am gutted about due to my own stupidity (caught him in the net with a yellow tang and he got slashed by the tangs scalpel ) They use to regularly simulate spawning after the lights went off.

Ambitious to set that all up on your way out the door, LOL. Cannot wait to see what happens next.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to R2R and I’m looking forward to the updates!

Great pictures as well.

@NY_Caveman Every time I wanted to move the contents something came up at the office. I just had Saturday and Sunday free then fly out Monday so I did my best, luckily previous planning paid off and I had everything I needed. The skimmer was also overflowing every chance it got due to something in the water but seems to of settled now after trying to explain to a builder how to adjust it ( he even emptied the skimmer locker).
@SPR1968 Thank you for the warm welcome, I am loving this forum so far.

I was suffering from reefy withdrawal so went to visit the local public aquarium. I do this on every holiday I go on. Sometimes coming back disappointed, but not this time because the fish are well looked after.

Ok so it’s almost time to go back to the U.K. and restart my tank and I have been debating something all this time and still didn’t come to a decision. The rock from my display is Fiji rock and I bought it over 3 years ago and always feel it is the reason for my reefing success. I can even now see new creatures appear from the rock and it is covered in yellow sponges underneath. This is the good. The bad is it also has a massive vermetid invasion (1 came in on a frag 2.5 years ago)and almost every surface is covered in them. They stress out my regal because he locks himself into the rock every night and always emerges with scratches from the vermetids the next day. I also have some aiptasia which the emperor used to eat but he has decided they are not on his menu anymore so are ever growing. So do I start out with new dry rock to try and rid myself of these pests? Or just break as many off as I can and still use the old rock? My worry is I will lose all that valuable fauna with new dry rock and I have huge corals with 2+ years of growth which I can’t throw away so re-infection chances are very high. What to do?

Finally time for an update. Things are starting to move forwards again at last now the house is finished. I have started to re-build the tank and I am going to change the things that annoyed me before.
The first thing I am changing is this:

It worked the way I wanted it, as I wanted two pumps on one return line as a failsafe. If one pump stopped the other one would keep the water flowing. There are 2 non return valves so that if one pump stops the failed pump valve will close so that the remaining pump doesn’t just pump water back to the sump as that would be the easiest route. The downside was the step down to the 20mm pipe at the top which restricted flow. There are also no outlets on the reefer for Uv or reactors etc so I wanted to add some. I cut the reefer return pipe and removed the bottle necks giving me 25mm pipe throughout the return path and the increase in flow was amazing. The monstrosity I created is shown below:

Three outlets and I can still fit the ro-top up tank underneath, which is why the outlets are positioned weirdly.
More to follow later.
