Tank 911

Hey guys my tank is at 90 degrees!!! I took my heater out and opened my window since it's chilly outside. I don't have a chiller, any suggestion to bring it down would be helpful. I currently have 2 big sealed bags of ice floating in it.

I would not want the temp to drop too quickly because a sudden shift could cause more issues. Do you have a small fan or two that you could clip to the top of the tank? This can help to slowly bring down the temp.

What size tank and what material ie: glass or acrylic ??? Probably just let it fall slowly on its own with open window ? Did you have a heater malfunction or what, do you have a back up heater if needed ???

Hi Todd, I guess that would help huh. It's a 110 tall glass tank. It could have been the heater, it's dropped 2 degrees since I took the heater out and opened the window. I will more than likely throw that one away and grab another one tomorrow.

OK, thanks for the needed info. Is there anyone you can call and ask a favor of in lending you a heater ? This would be most pertinent at this point in keeping the temp from falling to low and further stressing out livestock.

Oh, forgot to add that IMHO would probably let the tank temp settle out on its own. But still would make every attempt in finding a replacement heater Today/Tonight.

Sounds like you have determined it was the heater.
With that much of a temperature rise I am guessing it was at least 300 watts.

If you are running to get a heater I would suggest getting two 200 watt ones.
In the future if/when one fails in the on position the damage it can do is that much less.
Alternatively if one fails in the off position the other one can hold the fort till you get a replacement.

Will cost more but in my opinion the redundancy is worth it.
