Tank appreciation post :-) along with some wiestios

This is my second and most successful attempt at reef keeping! It’s been up and running for about 4 months now. my first tank was an absolute disaster that failed miserably from my lack of knowledge and patients so just being able to achieve this feels incredibly good lol

but with that said I have some questions.

I am still struggling to keep any species that incrust, they just all seem to wither away and die while my other corals seem to be thriving.

I’m using API essentials pro to dose my tank and the instructions say to dose part 1 and part 2 equally but my tank does not have the need for as much calcium (part 2) as it’s alkalinity demands (part 1). so I am mainly just dosing part 1. should I switch to another dosing regiment?

also any recommendations for a coral to place where my green torch is now? Looking to move it soon and I would like something other than euphyllia to put there

I would think stability may still be a challenge at 4 months.
It doesn’t matter what 2 part solution you use, you still must test monitor and record Alk, CA and MG and keep them in check. This will give you a basis of consumption by the system inhabitants. Ensure MG is 1350-1450ppm before you test for the Alk and CA.
Then put Alk in range 8.5-9.5dkh for example.
Then test CA and put that one in range.
Hold all three on mark.
Provide wide spectrum lighting.

You’ll find it quite difficult to maintain these “big three” components without testing regularly.

Magnesium sort of "holds" Alk & Calcium where it needs to be. It's OK to dose one more than the other.
Torch corals should be "on their own" because they have stinging sweepers & don't get along with anything else.
