Tank at 80F with ambient temp at 72F

Strange issue that's been running for a long time that I can't justify, my tank has always been running warmer than I'd like.

Room has AC and temperature is always between 70F-72F.
Right now, the room is at 72F and the chiller is running for few hours a day to keep it at 79F.

Tank is a 150G with following :
1 Jebao dcp3500
55W UV (Dino coming on and off)
4x Jebao MOW16000 (1600lph) running at 80%
2x MP40 running in reefcrest at 80%
4x150w heater on 2 Inkbird controller // I've checked them not running by unplugging with no effect

Previously lit but 6 Hydra 26HD, now running Giesmann spectra with 4X50w led bar + 4x58W T5 and the Halide for 4H(I know they produce a lot of heat).

Now running without the halide for a week, I've seen no major change in the temperature, the AC is blowing right at the surface of the tank to prevent the chiller from heating the whole room.


Do you think the Pump + UV could be heating the tank that much?
 
They can for sure contribute to heat.

Do you have good surface movement of the water? Do you have a lid or a hood over the tank?

Any fans blowing on the surface of the water to facilitate evaporation?

No ventilation as my top off reservoir won't hold the week after that, but it does evaporates about 15 gallon in 7 days.

I for sure have a lot of surface agitation considering the amount of flow I have.

No canopy on top.


Temperature is measured by the 2 Inkbird, the Ghl profilux probe, an IR thermometer and the chiller.
 
What type of chiller and Hp? My JBJ 1/5 hp can easily keep my 180 below 78. I have a lot of lighting in a canopy and temps last year prior to chiller would get up to 82.

The chiller has no issue cooling the tank but it does then heat the room, which then heat the tank then the AC kick on.
It's more about the annoyance of the chiller and the fact that I can't relocate it.
 
Gotcha, mine is in a big open space so I don’t notice the heat. I also use fans to keep the chiller from running as much
 
Well all the equipment makes heat. You need to do something with it. Either exhaust the chiller through a wall, encourage evaporation or use less equipment. I would use a dehumidifier and a fan blowing across the surface of water. My dehumidifier is across the house and since adding it, my chiller barely runs to keep tank at 78. In Florida with almost 1000w of lighting(mh/led) in a canopy in 78-79* ambient temp
 
I used to have the same problem and solved it with a $30 fan from amazon that blows across the surface of my DT water. Only downside is that the tank now goes through almost 3 gallons of top-off water per day, but I have an RODI system and ATO, and water is CHEAP in Missouri.

How big of a dehumidifier are you running? How many gallons is the tank?

This is what is adding the most heat to the tank, but every piece of equipment is going to add some. Basically a 55-watt heater running 24/7 because the bulb is cooled by the water.

This is also the reason water needs to be flowing constantly through them, so they don't overheat and damage the bulb.

Quickly looking these power heads and pumps only, in order, consume:

In the water:
28 W
35W x 4 x 0.8
140W heat direct to the tank water

Out of the water:
2x37x0.8 = 60 W (some to the tank, some to the glass)

Then another 55W of heat straight to the water too while the UV is on.

Then another ~50 watts from the lights going into the water (a lot of the heat loss is in the heat sink and ventilated out by the cooling fan).

So you’ve got close to 300 watts of heating just from your flow, systems, and lights.

The tank is probably a little more than a gallon, but I let it pump the water down the drain.(otherwise it will shut down several times a day). I was evaporating about 2.5g a day before and was noticing constant moisture on the windows on north side of house, concerns of mold.. the house feels much better now and chiller barely running offsets running cost. Pretty sure central a/c is working better now, the condensation drain line no longer gets cold enough to sweat and drip on the hood of my car..

I got to the same calculation approximately but I was wondering how nobody's complaining about it.

My chiller has been running even during the winter !
