I'm going to be moving cross-country and unfortunately am unable to bring a 100g tank with me. I don't really know where to begin. It would obviously be ideal to just sell it whole with everything in it but I'm realistic and I don't mind piecing things out. What's giving me the most anxiety is pricing everything and just getting started. Does anyone have any advice on breaking down a tank in general that may help in getting a plan of action together?

I have never done it but I would say start by selling most of the stuff at 75% price as long as the condition is good. Sell livestock at a fair price and since your corals are probably a good size after the years you can make a good amount of money off of them. Good luck :)

First sell the animals off.
Next decide if and when you want to set up a tank again. What equipment would want to keep. RO/DI unit skimmer what will be used again.
Then sell off what equipment you don’t think you will use again. Don’t expect to get a lot for the tank or equipment. People buying used equipment are wanting deals so they are price sensitive. You will never get what you paid for anything. Sell things here on R2R things sell fast. An good luck with your move.

My rule of thumb to move equipment /tanks quickly is to sell at 25 to 50 percent of new cost. Tanks closer to 25. Age of equipment factors as well. The older the cheaper.

Thanks everyone! I'm not expecting a lot for any of it, my main concern is that it's all put to good use and someone else can enjoy everything. I don't think we'll be able to set up a tank anytime soon so i'm going to try and everything that I can. I guess i'll put a list together of everything I have, take pictures, post, and see what happens.

1- Sell your live rock and coral first because it difficult to catch the fishes at this time.
2- Sell you fish and your spare equipment.(use egg crate divide the tank for easy catch them)
3- Start drain water then clean equipment then sell it.
4- Super sell for the last equipment left.
Good luck

** You can take pictures everything in your tank to make it clear for the buyer and they can help you when they get there.

That's the order I was thinking as well. I wouldn't have thought about using eggcrate to divide the tank and that will be really helpful. Thank you!
