Hi all, I'm in the process of a breaking down a tank to downgrade. Although, one thing that I was wondering is what is the best way to get rid of a few hitch hikers now that I am starting over. I have a small population of asterinas and vermetids that I want to be rid of. Also will this technically be a new setup or will my anemones be okay. I dont want to buy new LR and I have to be careful because I do have RBTAs that need to keep alive.
So let's say if I pull all my rock and leave them curing in a bucket for 3 weeks then setup the new tank. Is that long enough to starve out the population??
If I place the new sand, 3wk cured rocks, and old/new Saltwater into the new tank. Would that be safe for my anemones to survive or does this mean I just have to start over and wait 6 months before they can go in the new tank??
Here's the plan that I think may work for the tank swap:
Original Tank (116g setup)
1.) Start pulling LR (not all of it) to Bucket and begin curing (2-3 weeks with WCs)
2.) When new tank (43g) arrives:
a.) Add new sand
b.) Transfer 50% old water to 43g >> Fill about ~50% with fresh sw and let it cycle
3.) Transfer 4 nems with sand, small pieces of LR, and old tank water (from original tank) to QT***temp setup since new setup will start cycling***
4.) Transfer all remaining LR with original tank water from original setup to cure in Bucket
5.) Once Bucket LRs is fully cured, place it in new tank (43g) *prepare for mini cycle.
6.) When water parameters are good.
7. ) Add 1 fish a week to new tank.
