We are working on finding a contractor to finish our basement, incorporating a 180 gal reef. I'm having a tough time explaining what I want to potential contractors and of the 3 I've talked to, 2 of them just sort of looked at me like I'm a nut job.
What I want is for the wall to be framed around the tank stand....sort of an in wall build, but I want the side views. Similar to this image, but with the sides view-able on both ends. I assumed they would just frame and drywall out from the main wall above and below the tank, and the tank sits on a stand behind the actual wall.

One contractor kept telling me about his master cabinet builder who could make me a beautiful stand. I tried to explain that I only need functional, since the stand will be "hidden" behind the wall. He didn't get it.
Am I nuts, or is this type of build done some other way?
