When cleaning your tank do you scrub all the walls? Do you also just vacuum the top of your substrate or do you dig down in? Should I clean off my rocks since they have a lot of diatoms or just let my "cuc" take care of it.

Everybody has their own cleaning routines but yes, I do clean all 4 sides of the glass and vacuum the top layer of the substrate. Assuming your tank is new, the diatoms will eventually disappear but the CUC will help. It helps to blow the detritus off of the rock every so often though.

I use a razor blade to scrape the glass. I do the glass about once a week. When it comes to cleaning the substrate, I usually siphon one area of the sand bed during each water change. I don't have to dig down because my sand bed is not that deep. I also hit the rocks with a turkey baster during water changes. As far as the diatoms, the CUC will help but they will eventually diminish once the tank matures a bit. Just stick with a good maintenance routine and good husbandry habits like not overfeeding.

I use a flipper. Nothing better IMO
