I have a 1/4" netting cover on my mixed reef 60g cube. I got the netting a long time ago from BRS and have used it on several tanks. To reduce evaporation in a freshwater tank I just bought a sheet of Sunlite polycarbonate to cut for a top. It's easy to cut, has good light transmission and won't sag like acrylic. Is there a reason why we tend not to use solid covers on our reef tanks? I think that solid covers are pretty standard in the freshwater community. The 48x24 sheet I bought will be engough for both tanks so I'm thinking of using it for a cover on my reef tank. (btw -- the freshwater tank is a converted AIO Solana) ... Thanks, all replies appreciated!

Sometimes with solid tops, if a fish where to jump and hit the top, it can cause a spinal injury, especually in wrasses. I think is another reason they arent terribly popular
