So unfortunately I brought home an ugly case of hair algae from Reef-A-Palooza purchase and 10 weeks later with water changes, chemical etc I wasn't able to get rid of it ( 29 gal BIO ) so I moved everything to son's tank and my hospital.

I drained it, cleaned it, ran water through it for a week, drained it, cleaned it, water again etc etc etc.

I took all rock out and cleaned and dipped and etc etc for 4 weeks.

I dipped fish and coral before moving to hospital tank.

As I am now going to set my tank back up ( using water from my LFS that test 0's ) I am going to use

CaribSea AragAlive Bahamas Oolite aquarium sand.

Now my question.

Because I know it will turn the water cloudy ( which I know is okay ) my question is should I run my skimmer to help scrub the water?

I will be using filter media in the overflow before the skimmer as well.

Or should I just let it settle?

Sorry for the long post but thanks for the reply...

i would add Dr Tim nitrifying bacteria and turn off the lights for few weeks (turn on light after 2 weeks and run 2 hours.....slowly increase) run skimmer and powerhead. you will see ugly stage for few weeks or more. Let it cycle.....test ammonia and nitrates.

hey that sand needs to pre rinse fully before use. no it does not sterilize it. make it cloudless by pre rinse the reason why is bc keeping the cloud doesn't retain any benefit, only headache. The way we rinse it in our sand rinse thread is under normal tap for about half an hour, then lastly saltwater, then use. it works much better this way vs the directions on the bag lol
