Tank crash

I have a 30 gallon reef tank setup. Currently have a hob filter installed. I recently installed a hob skimmer. If I remove to hob filter will it crash my tank? I want to cut down on the items hanging on my tank.

Hob is running sponge and carbon

Not likely. Bacteria of this purpose coat everything, not just your hob filter.
