Tank crash

I have a 30 gallon reef tank setup. Currently have a hob filter installed. I recently installed a hob skimmer. If I remove to hob filter will it crash my tank? I want to cut down on the items hanging on my tank.

I am running sponge and carbon in the hob.

Shouldnt, but I would make sure the skimmer is working fine before removing the filter just to make sure there is not a big nitrate spike

I would personally go with a hang on overflow box and then get you a 20 gallon sump below. Would fix all your problems with stuff hanging on the back. You could get something like this
