So I think the tank is about cycled. The diatom bloom has stopped growing, the nitrates and amonia is dropping (nitrites have been at 0 for a while now) and we are starting to get excited about fish again. THIS time I am going to QT the fish (lesson learned from the last time although I am thinking it was an amonia spike). Have been told that I need to do a major water change, can I take 8 or 9 gal of that water and put it into my QT?

i am new to this and i "personally" wouldnt use water from your main tank and put it in your QT what if something happens to the water in your main tank it could happen in your QT tank too i would start a fresh QT tank but thats just me personally:)

As long as your parameters are in check there is no reason why you can't use display tank water for your QT. the sole purpose of your qt is to keep disease from spreading and give you somewhere to treat your inhabitants without killing your DT.

Just don't put the QT water back into the DT.

Again, please make sure your water parameters are in check first.

I have been a little lax in testing lately, but I have mainly just had the light off letting the CUC do a little work. Saw my detrus go down and I think I am FINALLY back on the right track
