Hi,

I started tank cycle 14 days ago with Stability and Pure Ammonia. I have added stability for about 9 days instead of 7. Ammonia has been 0 around day 8.

Nitrites just stay at 0.5ppm for past 4 days. I did tank cycle 1.5 years ago and it took less than 15 days. This time I am using Marinepure and Real Reef Rocks so it is not live rock. I am done with live rock and aiptasia.

My question, do I just leave it alone and measure nitrite every few days? Or do I add more stability or Ammonia? If I still see nitrites remain at 0.5ppm, let say in another 5 days, what should I do?

I measured nitrates once at day 12, it was 10ppm.

Thanks

Nitrite isn't very toxic at all to most saltwater fish, due to competition for uptake from chloride ion. Have you been adding doses of ammonia all during the 14 days? If so and your ammonia level reads zero by the next day, you can probably start adding fish, even though your nitrite oxidizers aren't yet fully established.

In normal terms *-} It takes longer for nitrite to nitrate bacteria to grow than ammonia to nitrite bacteria to grow in a new tank.

Yes, I added ammonia for 10 days along with stability. I will wait few more days to be on safe side. I added ammonia the other day, next I measured ammonia, it remained 0.

I thought stability has this bacteria as well.

It does, but it still takes time.
