Tank Cycle Question?

I have this hermit crab in my tank. He has giant shell and he keeps knocking over my rocks and coral. I don't want to give him back to my LFS so I was wondering if I got a new tank for him and just used some of the water in the existing tank does the new tank need to cycle?

Should be fine with rocks and sand. Bioload of hermit crab is not high.
