Tank cycle

It could be none at all or deadly. Plenty of people have drained and moved a tank or switched to a bigger tank without a problem.

Are you going with a bigger tank or smaller?
Will you be adding more rock?
If you had sand, do you plan to reuse it?

Thanks mike. My new tank is the same size as my old one. I switched to a reef ready tank and my sump is a 30 gallon instead of a ten.

You should be ok as long as the bacteria on the rock did not die.

The main issue I've heard of is people with deep sand beds. I have heard recommendations to use new sand if the old sand is really old.

I'm hoping for no cycle. Moving a 90 to a 125 with 40 sump. Using new sand and existing rock. Then planning to add dry rock slowly.

That's what I plan on doing bow. I'm going to put most of my rock in my bigger sump and add some big pieces of dry rock. My LFS store said it shouldn't cycle with dry rock.

You'll get a diotom(spelling?) Bloom but thats it. I went from 60 to 125 and put new substrate in and that's all I got. I used about 40 gallons of the old tank and the rest was new. Nothing died in the transfer.

I cleaned my tank water and a towel. I didn't know I could use, but I think dome use white vinegar? Like a 50/50 mix. I don't remember what you said, but moving a substrate from one tank to another might cause a small cycle just from disturbing it. I used dry sand when I did mine 130lbs of it and only had about 50lbs of live rock to start the seeding.

looks a little different now since I figured out my algae issue and rescaped the rock

You can clean your sand using old tank water or just replace it. Sand is the most confusing part of a tank move/upgrade for me as it contains beneficial bacteria, pods, etc., but it can also contain a lot of detritus and other nasties that could crash a tank.

How old is your current sand bed and how deep is it?

Nope all free standing. I change my scaping ever once in a while

I never like what it looks like when I'm done. So I change it about 4 times a year
