My 75 gallon reef tank just finished cycling, I wanted to add a fish and see how the tank responds, any suggestion on the kind of fish I should purchase??

Just finished cycling yesterday, I have 4 other tanks, planted, discus and a 5 gallon nano reef, I have over 10 years in freshwater, about 2 years in saltwater/reef

You might want to start out with some blue chromis. and see how they do for a while and then maybe some cardinals, wrasses, blennies?

Start with a few members of the clean up crew.

Clean up crew and some shrimp. See how they do. Whatever you do, don't put a damsel in there. You'll have to break down your tank to get it. It will be a nightmare.

@exquisitecorals, why is a damsel a bad idea? I too am a couple days away from adding fish to a a new tank and thought about damsels? Thanks in advance.

So if adding damsels it should be done to a tank that already has established stock and not early on?

I think it best to only add Damsels after the initial cycle is complete. If you have a ton or moderate amount of rock then you want to think twice about adding a damsel. Most damsels will become aggressive towards other damsels as they mature, especially in smaller tanks where territories are limited. Damsels may even take to chasing other fish. If a Damsel becomes aggressive it can become a challenge removing them especially if you have a larger scape.
They are one of my favorite fish, unfortunately there is seems to be a school of thought that considers them throw away fish.

Throw in a pair of clownfish in there. You'll most likely get them in the future anyways so no need to catch them and return them.

Thanks, I'm
Thinking of adding a clown fish, green goby clown fish, couple of blue/green chromis and a fire fish goby. Unless anyone thinks that's not good?

Thats not a bad list. I woulndt add all of them at the same time since you have to let your system stabilize or "catch up" everytime you change your bioload. I would add the clowns and the chromis first, they are hardy fish and it would add great color and entertaiment to the tank, no one likes to stare at a empty tank, right? Wait a couple of weeks and see how your tank reacts, then continue to add the other fish 2 or 3 at the time. If you have the means and patience I would recommend quarantine all your fish, it is worth it, trust me. One last thing, try to buy tank raise or tank breed Clowns, their survival rate is 100% greater that wild caught. Have fun!!
