Hello everyone! I’ve always wanted to own a saltwater tank, and finally decided to purchase one. I bought a Waterbox Cube 20 and am addicted to all things saltwater now
TL;DR: Basic beginner questions at the end :)

My tank is cycling right now, and everything is doing well. This is what it looked like when it started on October 6th:

I have a shrimp decaying in the breeder box and am dosing with MicroBacter7. Yesterday, I visited my LFS (WWC!) and they said that my ammonia is rising and to hold off for a few more days. All of this is great news for the start of a cycle, I’m happy with those results!

I was even happier when I got home today from work and the water wasn’t cloudy. Baby steps, but all in the right direction :)

Anyways, the reason I’m posting is because I was looking to purchase some zoanthids, two different color heads of the same euphillia, a ricordea, and GSP do something similar to this:

I’m in no hurry to rush my cycle or spend another $300 on coral/livestock. But I did have some questions.

1.) The next thing I’m going to most likely buy is lighting. I was recommended the AI Prime HD in regards to lighting and was wondering if I could possibly get away with cheaper lights? If not, that’s fine. But I did some research and not all of these corals will need such vibrant lighting. So it was just a thought.

2.) If I purchase these corals, do I have to dose the water with anything? Or will I have to purchase the corals first and then record my water parameters for a week to see what they need dosages of? If I do have to dose the water, I’m scared I’ll screw up the water chemistry..

3.) Id like to buy coral first, and then my livestockI was considering purchasing two clowns, two cleaner shrimp and possibly an urchin. Will I be able to put any other livestock in here?

4.) Can I purchase my clean up crew before my lights? Or should I just focus on buying my lights next?

Usually I go to my LFS and bombard them with questions. But I’ve been lurking for awhile and it’ll be some time before I go back over there. Thanks in advance!

Nice photoshop work! I thought that was a real tank until I really stared :)

You may well find that water changes are more than enough to keep your parameters with just two lps. You may have to dose at some point, but that's likely at least a few months down the road.

It's probably more common to go ahead and get your clown on before too many corals, but it's not a law or anything. The rocks can get pretty nasty the first 3-4 months. You might appreciate not being hindered by corals so u can simply lift them out and scrub off anything particularly nasty before it gets a real foothold.

You'll do fine, whichever way you go. Would probly do lights before CUC. They'll starve without algae and it won't really grow w just ambient room light. Lots of lighting options, best answered by others. Stocking too.

Best of luck!
