Just a quick question about tank cycling. I’m using Dr. Tim’s one and only and I’m wondering should I turn my return pump off before adding it to the tank?

I mean it seems pointless if it all goes down the overflow, right?

leave the return pump, power heads on. you need to remove any filter socks or poly type filters from the tank. if you have a uv turn it off. don't run your skimmer, but yes it should circulate through your entire system i have cycled quit a few tanks with dr tim's it works great. are you also using his liquid ammonium chloride

Seems to me you're going to want the bacteria in the sump as well as the tank.. I say leave it on. Are you using filter socks yet?
I’m using them right now but I won’t use them when I put the bacteria in. Can I just pour some in the sump? I have a bottle of Dr. Tim’s that’s rated over my tank size.

I would pour it into the tank and let it work it's way down to the sump.
