Lon story short my daughter tripped over a dog and hit the corner of my aquarium with her MacBook.

I am wondering if I can still use it or if all my planning is down the drain.

Please let me know what anyone thinks

Thanks

I took some better photos I am hoping that it will be ok. It is just a chip and the glass is still there and holding. It did not go all the way through either side and I can still see that the silicone is holding but still worried.

Please help

How big is the tank? I would say that you are probably okay

I would think it’s fine. I had a chip out drilling a hole that was bigger that and on a edge of the hole and it was fine. But I’m also not a insurance adjuster, but I will say the headline of this post made me LOL.

i got a few of these chips while from transportation.. never had a problem so far.. but mine are on the corners..
I would fill it up very nice and maybe polish.

I can turn the tank around before I fill it and not see it.

I just want to make sure it will hold.

It’s a 135 gal so it’s not small but if everyone thinks I will be ok that’s great. My daughter will be relieved she was almost in tears over it

Is there water in it now? If there is, it should have failed on impact if it was going to fail. If not, maybe you should fill it outside.
Either way;
Tell your daughter this is Steve Jobs
Fault for putting weapons grade plastic cases on Apple products.

"Usually" chips like that seem to be ok. I have a tank with one very similar running right now for over a year. It's only a 40 gallon. If none of the silicone looks damaged, or miscolored, etc. I would run with it. Any tank can fail, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it if it were mine.

There's some videos out there on how to put on corner guards. They make the tank look better if the edges and/or silicone is messed up. I'm not sure if they actually provide any more strength when done the way I'm talking about on an existing tank, on the outside. May help if your daughter, dog, and macbook pro happen to find eachother just right again.

Good luck with it! Let us know how it goes!

I had a 150 gallon tank with a chip like that for years.with no issues. The tank did finally end up leaking but it was a Seam on the bottom back of the tank NO WHERE Near the chip. If you do decided to turn the tank so its not visible Remember to check it often for any signs of changes but i agree with the others it looks to be ok..

Looks ok to me, it's when you see a sliver of a crack or fracture that travels in towards the panel is when they can continue to crack, this does not look like that.
I agree to turn around but check it occasionally, and I'd probably take a fine line black marker and trace the outline so it's easy to see if it has increased or traveled in any way.

I agree with what davocean said, turn it around, check maybe once a week to every once per two weeks, outline it, and maybe fill it with epoxy..

But before you do all that fill it outside like Kris said,

all in all, good luck!

If it were me I would have an expert look at the tank and give you an opinion. I personally would bite the bullet and buy a new tank because I’m paranoid as heck about stuff like that and I would be constantly worried about it. I have no opinion whether it might leak or not.I had a similar problem with a tank and replaced it. Far easier to do it now than after you have everything inside and it’s running. Just my thoughts

I just took down my 120 that had a chip just like that when I bought it. I ran it that way for over 15 years. I'm no expert but I think it looks safe.
