Tank decision imminent. 150 or 150??

As someone else said- if you’re worried about it wait until you can get the 170 IM

Between the SC and the IM is buy the IM all day with zero regrets.

Imho you can keep smaller acanthurus- just not the larger species. If you’re really worried about that then you want a 6’ 180g+ anyway.

Imho the IM is a better tank, a better value, and that extra 4” depth makes it a pain for cleaning.

Get the IM 170 which is really a 150 internal dims. 60x30x22.
20g's in the sump make it 170.
No, that is a 170 gallon tank.

Hey just wanted to say i was picking between the exact same tanks!
I ultimately chose the SCA 150 60x24x24. Its "bigger", cheaper, and arrives before 6 months. My tank should be here by the end of the month!

I think you missed something. Neither tank is 6’ between the 5’ and the 4’ the four is the shallower tank.
lol my maths was just bad....I could have swore I read 72".... ahh well I still vote for the 5' tank and I still dont like not being able to reach the bottom.. BTW nice pick up:face-with-monocle:

I had a 150 before and it was 30” deep and I loved it but was costing a fortune with halides and a basement sump. I still got scars on my arm. The guy who sold it to me said about big fish “Fish swim sideways too”. Didn’t know if that was a consideration. I do love the depth but this will be the last tank. Anyone know much about the big internal overflows of the sca?
I dont understand what you mean by scars and fish swimming sideways?

Scars from the burns from the halides touching my arms reaching the tank.

I own a IM 150 and it’s one of my favorite tanks due to its unique footprint. The 3 foot depth looks very impressive in person.

That sounds like a halide issue not a deep tank issue. Lol!
Those halide burns are a SOB. I lifted the entire hood off my 90 gallon one time and almost dumped it into the tank with my elbow reaction after touching a 400 watt radium. Those things instantly kill whatever they touch man. That hurt like hell.:frowning-face:

The trig part of the equation is really making me want a deep tank. 4" longer isn't enough to make a difference i doubt. Also, hard to beat that clean overflow of the IM tank.

I’ve had mine up for over a year now and haven’t had the need to clean it. Can easily access it from side if I ever needed to fiddle with it though.

Tank has shipped. Innovative marine for the win!! Special thanks to Xiaoxiy for all the extra help. Now the fun stuff starts! I appreciate everyone’s help making my decision. I’m not good with commitment according to my wife of 20+ years. She thought 8 years of dating was excessive.

You're gonna love the footprint of this tank!
