Tank delivery to apartment in NYC?

Hi all,

This may be somewhat niche, but I'm looking to get back into the hobby and just wondering how a tank would get delivered to my apartment in NYC or any other densely populated city for that matter.

Is it best to just get it through a lfs and have them bring it over and get it in my apartment, or can I order it through an online retailer?

Would appreciate any other tips you have for reefing in an apartment!

You're going to want to hire an INSURED moving company - your LFS should be able to guide you to people who've moved tanks in the past. If the tank in question is over 120 gallons that is the route to go - otherwise get you and a buddy and carry that puppy into the elevator and use those muscles.

No matter who delivers the tank it will come in a big ole shipping truck. They have all the permits to make deliveries and park on the sidewalks if need be... just like UPS and Fedex. Depending on your LFS you will need some friends to help you carry it into your apartment unless they charge extra for setting it up inside your apartment. This would be the best choice unless you have friends to help you carry it in but you will need to be responsible for transporting it to your apartment. If you have it drop shipped from red sea or waterbox or other company they do exactly that... "Drop Ship" it which means drop it in front of your apartment or house. Then depending on the elevator size or stairs you will need to take the tank and unassembled stand out of the box to make it easier to carry inside. It will come in a big ole create.

Yeah im looking more in the 50g range, I was more concerned about the truck blocking up the street for 20min while they unload the thing lol. I'm definitely going to ask my lfs about the process as well, only reason I wasnt going to order through them is they only carry red sea and I'm not sure I want to get a reefer 250.

Waterbox will drop ship it infront of your building. Then you and your friends can carry it inside.

My vote don't go rimless, I can't take the splashing everytime I look wrong at the tank, I'm about to throw my rimless into the street!
