around 6 pm today. my chiller pump stopped working without me realising. came home around 11 pm to c that all the sps has lost colours n polyps. lps all closed up, scoly mouth open. temperature is at 29c. whole room smells like dead fish. should i just clear out n dump everything or theres still a chance i can save this? the tank water is foggy and stinks probably due to the dying out. not sure how high the ammonia is as i dun have a test kit.

im surprised how few hours of elevated temp can do this. previously i had similar incident and nothing like this happened. :(

Water change, get the chiller chilling again. And maybe throw in a little activated carbon, to reduce the smell . Good luck

Ya a jump like that (assuming your were somewhere around 78ish before) will tick off some sps but won't nuke a tank. Can you give us some more info about what's going on?

I had a heater malfunction last November and it got to 86 when I happened to notice and didn’t lose anything

I wouldn’t give up yet! Do a large water change first and get the temp down. I’ve had to use bags of ice before.... I too live in a really hot climate and have issues keeping my tank cool. I feel your pain! Don’t give up on them yet...living things can be amazing at healing.

im really not sure what went wrong myself. all i know is chiller went offline temp went up to 29c. when i came home. the tank waste had a foul smell and was foggy. all sps polyps were retracted and lps were melting abit. did a 50% water change. but i guess i was too late. so far 90% corals gone. im not sure what else can it b that cause this. sad day... and my sps were growing and colouring up nicely. had some really nice donut and scolies too :(

All that it takes is for one or two to start to die and it starts an avalanche with the others. Sorry to hear this.

They did not all likely die from the elevated temperature... it just takes one or two. I find that LPS hate heat more than SPS do.
