I'm in info gathering mode, having been on a 15 year hiatus from reefing, and looking to start up again.

My project will center around a 180gal tank (72x24x24) with low-iron glass on front and sides, drilled for a Synergy Reef overflow.

Any recommendations as a vendor for the tank? Does anyone have a recent project done by Glass Cages and can vouch for their work?

15 years is an eternity to technology advances, I'm coming to notice... o_O

I have done a few projects through glass cages. I did a 180 gallon rimless thank through them. It was well made and i had no issues with it. They make decent quality tanks. If you want the cream of the crop I would go with a Reef Savy tank.

Thanks for the input. I have RFQs in to Miracles and AGE and will compare. I think shipping will be the deal breaker for Miracles.

Shipping a large tank is still shipping a large tank. You would be surprised, but shipping from Canada is not that much more then shipping for some parts of US. All depends on where you are at, and how far it's coming.

So, for the interested, from least to most:

Glass Cages (quoted 1/2" glass)
AGE (quoted 1/2" glass)
Miracles (quoted 3/4" glass)

I'm going to try CDA but my hunch tells me they will be somewhere between AGE and Miracles.

i just ordered an AGE tank. they have been very very helpful and there off bottom rimless tanks are some of the best rimless IMO.

You are not going to want to skimp on a 180 rimless tank.

CDA came in cheaper than AGE, by a few Franklins...

Crystal Dynamics Aquariums make some solid tanks as well. I'd definitely give them a look

I can vouch for CDA as well. Great tanks. My LFS/Work brings their tanks in almost exclusively and we have multiple set up in our display room. Awesome quality.

Contact SCA Aquariums. They’re great!! Delt with them on 3 occasions already. Very responsive, they send renderings and make sure your taken care of. Just my two cents.

Lots of great builders. Reef savvy is too.

If you like the price of glass cages, check out SC Aquariums.

They drill for the shadow overflow and will even do custom dimensions for little to no price difference.

My two custom tanks came in and look fantastic.. Steve Chow is also great to work with.

Thanks for the lead. I'm going to give them a look see.

Give Elliot or Austin a call at California Aquariums, they had my 90g shallow built for me.

36x36x16 starphire on 3 sides with shadow ghost overflow. Super clean beveled edges, thick black silicone.

Another vote for the crew at Crystal Dynamics Aquariums. Zoya and Trent were awesome and they build very very fine tanks. Be sure to talk to them.

There is another thread titled "A New Dawn" that does a pretty fair and detailed review of their stock 150g. Most of this would be relevant; however I seriously suggest the additional $150 to purchase the 16" shadow overflow instead of going with the stock one.

Here's the link: A New Dawn

That was a great detailed firsthand review. Maybe being new to the forum and not coming across it yet, I was looking for maybe a sticky thread in the equipment forum for tanks, just like there is for skimmers. Or maybe a poll?
