A quick question about an initial tank fill.

This is my first saltwater tank and I'll be filling it this weekend. My tank size is approximately 160 gallons with a 50 gallon or so sump. My lfs is recommending that I fill it with freshwater first and run for a few days to check for leaks and to clean up any leaching that may occur. I'm willing to do this but seems like a lot of wasted water. Your thoughts will be appreciated.

Doesnt hurt to check. I didn't test mine. Guess i got lucky.lol... Y not fill with RO and just add the salt to the tank slowly instead of draining and refilling??

I would fill it and test run with regular water first.filling it with RO water then finding out that it has a leak would waste alot more water unless you have a big storage container to drain it into.rmember that it takes alot of wasted water to make ro water

I just did this test on a brand new tank Im setting up. While I have never done it in the past Its definitely a wise move. It also gives your piping a good flush and remove any debris.
