I dont know why but my tank keeps getting warmer throughout the day. It's at 78.2 and then slowly goes up to 80, in the morning the temp is back to its normal. Any ideas anyone?

Heat from the lights?

Your room is most likely getting warmer during the day because it's getting warmer out side. You can try setting you tank temp to 76-78F so when it rises it doesn't get to high. You could also look into a cooler/fan to buy and use.

I suspect its natural causes also and tanks will get warmer in Summer months unless you take action such as cooling fans, tank or room air conditioning etc

but it can albiet rarely in my experience, be a problem heater, they do occasionally get stuck and stay on longer than desired
check your heater thermostat just in case its faulty

A 2 degree swing is fine and 80 is not an issue for reef life. It's likely lighting or ambient room temperature.

My tank swings +/- 3 degrees Fahrenheit a day and it has been completely fine for months. Granted, I have a small tank without a great deal of heater precision, but as long as you don't have any extremely sensitive livestock I would not worry.

Everyone else has given some good tips.

Just wanted to check: Did you add any pumps or anything recently?
