Tank Good enough to keep Blue Tang?!

Have you done any research on the subject? This is at least the 3rd time someone asked the same question in the last few days, I doubt the responses will be any different...

Here people are encouraged to ask question in a new post vs searching. I got a bit of a reprimand when I suggested people search before posting.

You do know you both said the same thing, right? You are replying to a post saying that it is more important to have swim room. That post noted that 90 g isn't really 90 g when you factor in rock, coral, or any equipment. So to you total volume. The mistake you made is that our fellow hobbyist actually is aware of the distinction. Rock and corals and equipment take up, wait for it, swim space...

You are both saying the same thing just differently. There is a disagreement on the 15 gallons, hippos, and of course facts surround that because we know that wasn't their home for more than a brief spell be it QT or observation which doesn't count. You know as well as other experienced hobbyist that those conditions are different and growth rate is also an important factor when considering these things.

You don't seem to know what I'm saying so let me clarifying then I'[m done. OP is placing a small tang into a 90 which has four feet of swimming room. Gallon volume irrelevant. Fish don't run into rocks. Yet that small fish will get lost in that 90 with rocks and the other 20 pounds of assumed obstruction. My point being small tangs can be placed in 15g as I've done that and wasn't short lived or QT. I've had this discussion before. This nonsense that one needs 180g six foot tank for an adult tang then dismisses the fact that proportionally that 15g two foot long tank is considerably larger as far as swimming space relative to length of fish. Do that math. Two inch against 24x12x16 vs 14 against 72x24x24. Two inch anything not finding equivalent later in life when not only 7 times longer but has attained considerably more mass.

Something both of you failed to grasp and perhaps go read my original comments again. This is temporary and for that small to be added more than adequate for a considerable amount of time in a 90 regardless of actual water volume. Would be the same were it a 75g being only slightly shorter in height.

If we really want to be ethical to fish based on human assumptions of adequacy. Don't keep fish. Problem solved. None of us including Polo have the ability to replicate a natural reef. Fact.

You are going to get various opinions on this but the main take away is that the Blue Tang can get large. The other thing to be aware of is the speed at which they can get there. I've personally not owned one but knowing a few who do it reached 4 to 5 inches in a year. That is quick.

Be aware of their size, growth rate, and space. It all factors in. The only other thing to note is what if you don't do the upgrade? What is your plan b.

They can grow from 1 inch to 6 inches in about 9 months.

I think its a numbers game. More threads = higher numbers to show sponsors or prospective sponsors so more chance of increased revenue ? Pure speculation on my part I was told it was to make people feel welcome and allow more answers to be available to those that do search or something along those lines, I don't remember the exact wording.
