Fellow reefers,
I am getting custom tank for DT: 5' Long x 2' Width. Need inputs on the pro and cons for the height either 20" (120 gallon) or 22" (135 gallon) or 24" (150 gallons).

Maintenance wise is not an issue, I currently have 24" high tank.

My concern is the evaporation rate, with the same surface area (5x2) but deeper tank, would I evap more? Currently I have 120 gallon for my DT and I like the evap rate (~10 gallon per wk)

Price difference is minimal and it's eurobraced tank

Thanks

Evaporative loss is a function of surface area only. The depth should not matter when temperature controlled.

I have a 5 foot tank as well, and regret my 24" depth - wish I'd gone shallower, just for the sake of reach. Of course there are benefits in added overall volume. If you don't mind the depth, nor the cost, go for increased volume and it should not come to bare on evaporation.
