I’m planning my first reef tank, and thinking of placing it in our dining area. Since this is very close to the kitchen(15ft?), I’m wondering if there are any issues with aromatics interacting with the tank. We cook a lot, and the aromas tend to linger.

Is there any info on this? I have searched the forums, but haven’t seen anything specific to this.

Thanks in advance!

I feel like if you covered the top it would be fine it depends on what you are doing if you Freezing it I wouldn’t but like normal food sounds fine

Interesting question! No doubt that some of that is getting into your water, however I've not yet see any real proof that something like that is going to cause problems. Those aromas that have been freed from the food are usually volatile and probably won't be around in your tank very long. Remember many fish keepers (not me) even use garlic in their fish food.

Now one thing I found interesting was a baker was having problems because of the flour entering the tank. So try not to form clouds of dusty food items.

No problems here.
