I'm looking into getting a 5x2x2 foot peninsula reef from either red sea or waterbox. The only location I can put it is in my basement, but the stairs leading down to the basement are a weird angle where the tank would have to be held vertically to go down. The weight and size make me scared to attempt it. Has anyone used a moving company with good results? I called a local aquarium store and am waiting on a quote. The guy who answered the phone was lazy and referred me to their website . Any experiences or tips would be helpful, thanks.

I have not used movers but wish I had while carrying a 120 vertically up a set of stairs with only one helper. We secured those forearm moving straps to it and although it held well, that was sketchy at best.

The new red sea has 3/4 inch glass and is like 350 lbs. In a straight line it's NBD but I don't think I can pitch it vertically and then down a flight of stairs.

We put a 6 footer with 3/4” glass on a dolly, wrapped in a moving carpet and used tie downs to secure. Going down the stairs, 2 in the front, one in the back, while slow, was easier than putting it on the stand at 468lbs, this took four friends.

Keep in mind that magnet things don’t hold well on 3/4” glass unless they were designed to do so. You can correct this by simply buying a stronger magnet.
