Tank location of Skimmer

Many ask where in a sump a skimmer lands, but my question is the tank. Basically because a prior lid broke, and I am rebuilding, as desired. The filter returns in across the top center of the tank, creating a counter-clockwise flow. Would I be better positioning the skimmer in front of the return within the current, or behind such in the deader half of the tank?

Rest assured that, at the end of the day, where the skimmer is located will not make any difference.
