My tank lost power for approx. 4 hours, temperature dropped to 74.2. All my fish are alive but all the coral are closed up and not opening. I cannot tell if the corals are dying or if they are recovering. This happened on Saturday.

Is everything up and running now?Only thing you can do is monitor and wait. I hope your corals recover.

I was doing a water change about a month ago on my coral qt tank, I unplugged the heater because I didn’t want it to fire on and crack while it was exposed to air, did the water change, a full 24 hours later I went to feed some reef roids and noticed the water was cold! I forgot to plug the heater back in and the temperature dropped to 63F. I plugged the heater back in and hoped for the best, I’m glad to say the corals fully recovered, they were closed for days and partially open for days as well. I only had zoas and acan frags plus snails, no losses.

Sounds totally recoverable. Just get it back up to temp and keep things stable. In the future you can consider a battery back up. I just run a heater, return pump and powerhead on it.
