Tank Made Possible by R2R

Sorry, pocket dialed it. Long day.

Are you planning on 'aesthetic' caves or 1" slots they can hide in and sleep in?

And get crushed in when I'm moving rock around. :-/
Keep a count of the fish as you are working.
Now I usually feed just after or during if I'm worried about someone I can't see at the moment. :-/

No worries

Planning on caves and crevices they can hide in and maybe get crushed in while moving rocks. Always had these crevices for the last 2 hrs and haven’t crushed anything yet ;) I like to not be able to see all my fish. That, to me, means they’ve got adequate hiding spaces. But it also stresses me out to no end counting them and watching for all of them to eat. So there’s that lol. But I try to make it so there’s always something for everyone to graze on during the day anyway so they don’t starve if they’re too shy to come out at feeding time. I also spot feed those who hide if I know where they’re hiding

Lol, same. Two get spot fed because they won't jump in and grab some.

Some people will try to make 1 large opening, about 5 to 10" across. 'The cave'.

I went a little overboard with rock.
A holey rock tetris cube with about 60% rock blind alleys and 40% clear swimming room.
2 layers of swim through caves for the larger fish (4+" when they mature) and a bunch of tiny crevices the smaller fish can escape to.
That was why I mentioned making sure it's far enough away from the glass. :- )
Ours isn't in a few places. [emoji17]

Believe it on not, having more hiding places generally causes your fish to be out more because they feel secure and know they have a place to hide if need be.

That makes sense. I always like to provide lots of spaces to minimize aggression but that’s a bonus too

I’ve been battling with plumbing and have added a 4th lesson.

Lesson 1: Always ask for a detailed list of everything included in the price of a system.

Lesson 2: In the saltwater hobby... budgets are a figment of ones imagination. (Courtesy of RobW)

Lesson 3: patience is a virtue. Everyone says it. But it’s more true than initially suspected and deserves a spot on the list.

Lesson 4: plumbing is hell. It legit has me wishing I never upgraded to begin with. Someone needs to come to my house and take over plumbing before I lose my mind!!! Patience is running thin. Very very thin. We’ll call plumbing the low of the hobby. Thankfully, it’s temporary.

Plumbing DONE!!! Yay

I am absolutely gutted right now. 3 weeks to the end of fallow and I cross contaminate. I’ve got 4 tanks going and I was doing some maintenance and got careless. I can’t believe this is happening.

This hobby has turned into a chore and It’s seriously gotten me to question if I made the right decision to upgrade. Maybe I should have just stuck w my 55g, added good quality lights, and some corals. What have I gotten myself into???
