Tank Mg never been below 1400

So my tank is now 12 months old and according to my Redsea kit my Mg has never been below 1400.
Is this possible after 12 months?
Even today it measured at 1470

If your doing waterchanges, with a low demand tank, yes it’s certainly possible. Magnesium tests are one of the more unreliable ones though, the repeatability of the test is horrid in general. Generally I only check mine once in a blue moon, mainly to make sure my salt mix isn’t dodgy.

What salt mix are you using? Mine never has been higher than 1270 but I use Red Sea Blue Bucket.

Depends what salt you use, could be correct as mag is not used as much as the other two. But testing kits can be hard to judge the correct reading with mag and calcium.

That ratio idea is not optimal, imo. 35 ppt natural seawater is 1280 ppm, and imo, it’s also ok to be a bit higher (say, 1400 ppm),

But if calcium was an ok 550 ppm, I would not recommend targeting magnesium to 1650 ppm.

Yeah, 1470 is inline with that salt mix...just based on test accuracy alone.

If the new salt water really is that high at 35 ppt, then yes, switching salt mixes is the only way to bring down the tank.

Mostly LPS. Only 2 montis recently added but Mg has been as high as 1600 before the Monti were added
