Hi, new on here and would appreciate any help.

I have a 100ltr mixed reef tank. Lightly stocked,
Parameters are all stable. I’m using Red Sea pro salt and my dkh sits at 11.3dkh, cal 420. Mag is stable, phosphates 0.02 (little bit lower than usual as I’ve been doing a lot of water changes to try and the solve issue.

my ph dropped to 7.5 last month from 8-8.2 and I can’t seem to get it back up, my Zoas aren’t looking great and my gsp doesn’t come out at all. Torches etc are looking fine tho.

I’ve had the windows open for 3days now and my skimmer has been drawing fresh air from outdoors.
managed to get my ph to 7.7 but can’t get it any higher.

dosing with sodium carbonate which used to buffer my ph from 8- 8.2 over night. Dosing still raises it but 7.7 isn’t ideal and I think this is the reason my zoas are struggling.
Any ideas???

how long can it take to remove the co2 from the tank. I’d of thought 3 days would have been enough especially with the tank being right next to the window
I also have good surface agitation with powerheads for gas exchange.

Ive ordered a co2 scrubber for my skimmer but surely all that fresh air should do the job.
Never had issues with low ph before.

Thankyou

The obvious first question, are you sure your ( I assume a pH meter ) is calibrated and accurate ? That’s one big drop if the tank and it’s local environment hasn’t really changed.

Thanks for the reply,

I am going off Neptune apex probe, I’ve never had any problems before, I did change a faulty apex brain last month and haven’t recalibrated but I have tested ph with a kit and it’s showing up the same ph. Currently 7.7.
It’s strange that my zoas and especially gsp are struggling as they tend to do well if all other levels drift slightly, that’s why I’m leaning towards ph. other levels are fine, Salt is 35 by the way.

I’d be calibrating the probe before doing anything else.

Co2 scrubber has just arrived, so I’ll fit that and see if that helps. Altho I don’t think it will make much difference. I’ll order some calibration fluid and try another test kit.
It’s driving me mad…..
