You're using a stand correct? As long as your floor is strong enough and you use a stand it will be fine.

I'm not worried about the weight as much but the carpet would it be unbalanced ??

Personally, I'd lay down a piece of plywood on top of the carpet. You'll inevitably have splash over and you'll end up with mildewed carpet. Better yet I'd buy a piece of leftover granite to cover that space. You can find leftover pieces cheap off Craigslist.

My tank is on carpet. I shimmer the state d to make sure it was level before I placed the tank on it. When I do anything to the tank I use towels placed around it to keep the carpet dry

Man!!! Just put the tank on the stand and be done! No need to waste money on granite or plywood. Like dude said, put towels down when working on the tank.

To me it appears a nice home. Not everyone is okay with towels as a long term solution. To each his own.

Well the tank shouldn't leak, the towels are for water changes or working on tank. Towels would be used for hardwood floors too, or do you just mop afterwards?

3 tanks, 2 on carpet, one on bamboo -- new townhouse. With each water change I put down an old beach towel, been just over 2 years and the carpet and bamboo floors still look great. An old beach towel during maintenance does wonders.

If the tank leaks, anything under the tank wouldn't help much, so I wouldn't be concerned about that.

It is safe to put it on the carpet. Safer to put something under the stand to more evenly distribute the weight, like Liquid360 mentioned. Plush carpet can settle out of level (as can any floor when you add weight to it). I had thick carpet in my basement that I set a 75 gallon tank on. I shimmed the stand when the tank was empty. Roughly 2 months after it was up and running, it was out of level significantly (about 1/4"). Keep in mind that even though the tank might not be leaking there is almost always going to be salt creep and depending on the type of filtration you use, water can splash and mist enough to leave stains. That nook will look awesome with a tank in it!

Thank you! Couldn't have said it better.
