Tank placement for rastas

In my experience they're slower growing. Mine have been in two different tanks with different flow patterns with the same lighting. They've grown faster in the 180 as opposed to the 110, I have them in lower light and flow.

Thanks Brandon. I moved them down yesterday. Didn't seem to like a lot of flow and light. Stayed small but would open some.

They're considered a "micro" ZOA, their polyp size is rather small. Mine when fully open are small. Best of luck with them. They're an oldy but a goody.

Low to medium flow and on the bottom. they are a smaller polyp and slow grower. Good things come to those that wait. RIght not I am looking for some Sunny D's, Red Hornets. Anyone have any?

My experience with rastas is that they grew no matter where I put them but they did it slowly.

I started with an 8 polyp frag also, 3 months no babies, so I fragged it down to 4 and both frags exploded with growth.

I have my zoas in medium to high light and medium flow and they exploded with growth. Easily the fastest growing Zoa I have. From a 3 polyp frag to 300 in a year.

IME with gradual changes they will adapt to any situation. I started them in low flow low light and got them to high flow high light and growth is similar to other zoas. In my system they quadrupled (from 1 to 4 polyps) in about 3 months.

Rastas are on Bottom of a 40b and moderate flow. Went from 6-10 in 2 months. I have a couple of frags of sunny tunfortunately I've never shipped and wouldn't really know how

Rastas and my Blue Rhinos are very slow growers. These are located at the bottom of my 65 gallon. Low light ,low flow. It took me 3 months to get two new heads on my Rastas and almost a year to get one more head on the Blue Rhinos. Not like my Scramble eggs and Red Hornets in the same tank, they both popped over 10 heads each in two months.

I have mine near the sand bed. That's where I found them to look best with moderate flow.

Did you attach the frag plug to a base rock and it took off? Or do you just have the frag plug stuck in the sand bed?

Rastas have always been tricky for me. Up down & left to right.. No go for some reason.. They look good for about two weeks or so and then they just start to wither away slow. I've had the same problems with Gold Mauls, Blue & Purple Hornets as well. I'm not sure what the remedy is yet...

I moved them down on the sandbed and they seem to like it better there. Will see how they grow there for now.

I like to start them out low, if they stretch for light I move them up in my tank. But they look healthy now.. Good luck.

I started with 1 polyp around April and now have 12. They're 2 inches off the sand bed with the plug glued into a rock (you can cut the base of the plug off). Low-medium flow, and radions at 85% power max.
