Hello,

I will be moving to a new home very soon, like in a week and I am facing a huge dilemma. I have limited space in the house and there are brand new wood floors throughout the entire home. I don't want to put a tank directly on the floor as wood floors damage so easily.

I do have a garage that is attached to the house and insulated. Temps stay very stable and the garage would be very easy to climate control due to it being a part of the home.

My question is, will my tank be ok in the garage? I will have motorcycles in the garage and possibly 1 car that will be moved in and out daily. Will the fumes from the vehicles pollute my tank? I was planning on adding a 150g sump if I did move it to the garage but am wondering if this would even work with the vehicles being in there as well.

Thanks for reading!

It could be a slight problem with the gases... plus when are you going to see the tank!? If it is your only option, purchase a tight fitting lid for the dt and preferably another top for your sump to keep out any fumes. Try to maximize your garage's ventilation in any ways you can. I'd also purchase an oversized CO2 scrubber for your protein skimmer

I'm sure you could find something to protect the floor under the tank stand. For drips and small spills wiped up right away I don't see it causing any lasting damage. I'm paranoid about leaks on my new tank as well. I bought the apex and the new fmm along with some leak sensors. I have it set up that if a sensor detects a leak the skimmer, return pump, and ATO all shut down and notify me via text. I also put a shower underpayment in my stand and made it a bathtub shape. It will hold a couple gallons of water in an emergency. You can do that and put some under your stand if you wanted as well. Home Depot sells it by the foot. I'd agree with best fish... who's gonna see the tank in the garage. Out of sight out of mind. I also think the fumes would cause an issue. I don't believe a co2 scrubber will remove CO and it definitely won't help with any other fumes you may have in the garage.

Wow, thanks for such quick replies.
The garage will be a highly traveled area and I do spend a lot of time out there myself.
I am pretty good at cleaning up spills and checking on leaks but I am worried water will get in between the stand and floor where I won't be able to clean it. If the floor of the stand was raised off the ground I wouldn't worry so much as it would air dry out or I might be able to clean it somehow.
