Can anyone give me a hand? I would like to upgrade my biocube to a 40g breeder tank with a sump my only problem is I have no idea how to plumb a tank to run to a sump and back. Was thinking a 10g sump any help would be greatly appreciated.i don't have no dosing equipment and I am afraid of the sump, tank over flowing I case of a power outage what' prevents that from happening?

Easiest way would to be to get yourself an overflow box such as the ones CPR sells and that will drain your water from the tank into your sump. In the sump you will need a return pump which in your case would be in the neighborhood or 200 to 300 GPH to return water back into the tank. You want to cycle the volume of the main tank water thru the sump at a rate of 5-8 times an hour. As for flooding. When power goes out your tank will back siphon thru the return so don't have the return nozzle too low in your tank and you will be fine. Best thing is to DO SOME REASEARCH and check out a few builds on here to get some ideas and see how other people with similar systems have theirs set up. Good Luck

I would drill the 40 so that I wouldn't have an overflow box hanging off the back. You can get the glass hole saw and bulkhead/strainer off Amazon.com. Just take your time and drill the tank slowly or have someone do it for you; some LFS have this service. PVC pipe would come out of your bulkhead and drain into your sump. 10G is fine for a sump but bigger is better. In your sump you would have your return pump. Make sure there's enough space left in your sump for when you turn off your return pump so the sump doesn't overflow from the water draining back into it.
