Tank question

No, the tank will bow without that or by Eurobracing it.

The only reason I can imagine wanting to take the brace off would be for lighting purposes. If that's the case, grab a 3/8" piece of glass, 8 inches wide and silicone it wear the the plastic brace is. If the tank is full of water do this and let the silicone cure for 2 weeks before removing the original brace. If the tank is empty you can probably remove the center brace then add the glass brace.

I wouldn't remove the brace without having something in it's place. Trust me, if the manufacturer could build the trim without a trim they would have. Some tanks are fine without them. Depends on how they were built, I had a 72x18x29 that had 1/2" glass and no brace but that thing was built like a bomb shelter. In this case though, leave it or add something else.

Like some have said, if you want the dark spot gone, remove the trim and brace and put in a clear glass brace. Only do it in that order if it has no water yet. If it is filled already, then put on the clear glass trim with a brace and give it a couple weeks before you remove the black trim.

What kind of light r u running? This was never an issue for my 75 with vho. I have an older glass cages tank with 1/2" glass. It still has those braces. Built like a brick outhouse.

OH. well um... If it were me, I would upgrade lights before messing with the integrity of my tank. Halides or a pair of LEF fuxtures will work around the brace yet still show a shadow due to their inherent design. Flourescent will make it vanish pretty darn good. get you a decent T-5 4 foot fixture and roll with it. TRUST me. that is the better way to go
