Since the swap to the 40 my tank has been running hot. I have a Coralife digital thermometer and it's high, in the 83-85 degree range. I've turned my heater off and it's still in the 80-82 degree range. Any tips? To get it down some.

If you aren't already running a fan, try pointing one at the water in your sump. Before using LEDs, I used this method to drop my tank temp ~2deg.

Get a good thermometer those coral life are crap....
I had a bunch of them for my brood stock tanks and they all read different and some were way apart. Not even close to each other.
They see the small clip on fans for aquariums but one of the larger ones sold at like target or wall mart really work better.

80 to 82 aint bad really... I used to keep my tanks at that for years. What scares me is most of those coral-life digis run way low so you might be hotter.

I have fan pointed at my sump on a controller and are set to come on at 82.

+1 to this

I have one of the digi coralifes and it reads 2 degrees higher than my apex. Go to petco and grab the old school mercury thermometer. most reliable by far

What kind of return pump are you running?

It's the Eco 633. I think it's my skimmer causing the issues. It's a deltec ap600.

Those use a aquabee pump I believe and they run pretty cool and are really reliable unless something is wrong with it.

It is the aquabee pump. I've had a few issues where it wouldn't skim for a day or two. I did a vinegar bath and it seems to be better. I have looked for a replacement pump for it but I'm not sure what would fit it.

Fans blowing over the water do wonders but promote a lot of evaporation so have your RO ready.

I need to get a mercury as a backup for the apex.
