Tank Set up - Sump/Skimmer/Tank

Hello, I'm new to the hobby.
I recently purchased a 2nd hand 65 gallon acrylic tank and a 5 gallon sump. Will the 5 gallon sump going to be enough?
Also, do you think it will work side by side like in the picture using a hang on overflow?Also what kind of skimmer or how big of a skimmer should I use?

I believe your 'sump' is an old style 'wet or dry' filter system that used bio balls. It can be used as a sump. It will work with a HOB siphon overflow. There is no reason I can think of why you can't use them side by side.
