Are the all in ones like Red Sea and Waterbox a better buy? Or would I be better doing a DIY stand and getting an Aqueon tank, all the parts, etc?

In the words of Johnny Cash, "I got it one piece at a time" with my old mixed reef.

Just curious best method and maybe favorite vendor too. Sorry lots of questions haha!

AIOs are quick and easy set ups and also cost effective but pose their own circumstances. IE skimmer size, filtration,etc...

If size and fit are an issue AIOs work great (BRS has all kinds of videos re: AIOs) If you're a "hands on" guy and have time, budget & patience then build it piece at a time. Neither is better than the other just different approaches.

Do you have a favorite retailer? BRS or local? My local is a by gone era. Thanks again!

BRS is literally in my back yard but I bought my last tank 120 gal from these guys -> https://www.fishtanksdirect.com/

I love BRS for all the maintenance, gear, foods etc... but they don't build tanks - I wanted someone who would handle warranty directly not tell me "contact mfgr". I have an Aqueon 65, a Deep Blue 120 & a LuckReef frag tank - ALL are quality built tanks. Shop around there are more/better quality tanks around these days then ever before. Poll the forums, you'll get a million recommendations - most are really good quality builds.

It all depends on how fast or slow you want to go and how much money you are willing to spend. scaquariums.com is cheaper than most other sites I have found online, but if you can go to a brick and mortar store you will save a ton of money. It costs a lot to ship a tank.
