So my stand has already been built custom oak with canopy. It was based on going with 180 gallon tank, 72x24x24, but now I can get a heck of a deal on 220, which is 72x24x30, bigger is better right?

My problem is I am only 5'10", I worry the 220 will be too tall. What would you guys go with?

Thanks for the advise.

I have a 24 inch deep tank and I'm sorry I went that deep. It's my opinion and experience that the deeper the tank the hard it is to clean, move things around, feed corals that are on the bottom. Keep in mind that the deeper it is you will need to ensure your water is moving - meaning an additional powerhead either lower or pointed straight down to ensure proper circulation.

Deeper tanks are VERY difficult the clean but they are pretty!!! Just my opinion

I have a 72x24x30 as a cichlid tank. I wouldn't want a tank that tall for a reef unless you're a really hands off type of person. I almost never have to put my hands in my 220, maybe once a month but I do have to do something to my reef (20" tall) once or twice a week it seems.

So I am setting up everything to be a reef tank, and that what all my equipment is I purchased, but it funny you say cichlid tank, as I was thinking about that as well, at least until I move, as I am in the middle of building a new house that won't be ready until May of next year, and did not want to let everything sit until then, but also was not sure if I wanted to setup the reef tank until we move.

So I am kinda torn what to do. I think it would be very difficult working on 30 inch tank.

Moving a tank is brutal. Moving a reef is a disaster.

If it were me I would just spend the next nine months doing research and figuring out exactly what you want to do. Maybe get some rock curing (if you decide on a reef) for a few months so you're all cycled and ready to rock (pun definitely intended) when you move in.
