So i earlyer posted about my no3 problem and the conclusion was that my tank is verry overstocked. So i have started looking around for a bigger tank and i found a 380L witch looked really nice and one 650L that looked a bit old. I would rather pick the 380 would that be ok for my fish or still verry bad ?

1 bluetang
1 yellow tang
1 indian sailfish
1 foxface
4green chromis
2 clownfish

The 650L would be more appropriate for the blue tang and sailfin tang. Everything else would do just fine in a 380L in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice [emoji4][emoji108]. Do you think i could just fill the new tank whit my old water move over my live rock and sand + fill upp the rest whit new sand and rock without haveing it to cyckle. Or is it a bit to big for that?

Moving the sand can be a little risky if you haven't kept it stirred and cleaned. If you have, great, move it over. Otherwise I would go with new sand first and then move your old sand over if a little at a time.

You can move the water with all the live rock and fish over at the same time, no need to cycle. If the rock in your tank can currently process all the ammonia from the fish, they will process it just as well in the new tank.

I did something very similar last fall with an upgrade and I only moved about 1/2 of my old rock over. No problems at all. I moved all my fish and rocks into plastic totes with heaters, powerheads and old tank water. I tore my old system down, put the new one up and added the new sand and 3/4 full of new water. I then started moving some of my old rock over along with more water and the fish. The entire process took under 36 hours. Never saw the first bit of ammonia.
I went from this.

No fish or large invert losses. Lost a few corals, snails and crabs... litterally... just couldn't find them among all the rock!

Thanks alot it was verry helpfull [emoji4][emoji106] i actually think im going with the 380 thoug seems like the 650 is only bigger becaus its hight it was only 20 cm wider. And i would probebly not be able to reach the bottom. So it would be hard to keep it clean

I would recommend getting rid of your sailfin and regal tang if you do not get a longer tank. They look pretty cramped from the pictures in comparison to your tank size and I would think it’s in the best interest of your animals to move them to a more suitable home.

Yes thats what this post is about. me getting a bigger tank for them

Sorry, I misinterpreted the post. Thought you meant you already had a 380L and were just upgrading to a nicer 380. Whats your current tank size?
Oh okay no worries :) well i have i 180 now (witch is insanly small for these fish) they have been living in it for 5-6 years now never got sick tho. I have been lucky i guess. However i hope the 380 would be good enough what do you think? its 140cm wide [emoji5]

I think that is a much better home for them and they will be a lot happier in there. A 140cm tank is a big upgrade over what you have now. Make sure to post some pictures when you do it!

Absolutly i will [emoji4][emoji106]

380 is defiantly better then what they are in now. You need to realize how big your tangs are going to grow. They really need a tank at least 244cm long.

Seems to be alot of diffrent thoughts of how long tank they need som say 150 some say 160 but i never heard that they would need atleast 244. I mean i think its verry unusual that people get a tank that big just becaus they want tangs. For exampel the 650l tank was only 160cm and that is a huge tank. I would need almost like a 1400L just for 3 tangs seems like a big exaduration. Ofcource a tank could never get too big but i mean these fish have been in a 180 for 6 years now whitout sickness. So i really dont belive they need atleast 244 to survive.

No they don’t need it to survive. They do to thrive. They are open water swimmers used to covering substantial distance around the reef. You could survive in small closet, but you would not thrive! A sailfin tang will grow to 35 cm. My tank is 244cm long and I wish I could justify a larger tank for my sailfin tang. When I set up this tank I left lots of swimming room for it. He can go from one end to the other in the flick of his tail. It is amazing how quickly and effortless he can move that far.
