Hi all, just curious if its possible/advisable to keep a pair of common clowns and a pair of Clarkiis in a 96" long tank or will they find each other and fight if they start spawning?

This is a purely hypothetical scenario at the moment, I currently have 2 tanks running, a 90 reef with a pair of common clowns and a clown-free 55 fowlr to which I was considering adding a pair of clarkiis. My ultimate plan is to amalgamate both tanks into a 96" tank when we move in a couple of years time so I'm trying to make smart stocking choices now so I won't have compatibility issues in the future.

thanks

I have a gold stripe maroon and a tomato in a 92g with a lot of rock and corals. They each live on opposite sides of the tank. They rarely see each other but maybe a couple times a year but if they do after a tussle the maroon chases the tomato back to his hang out. I think by pure luck the don't meat up more often but with many rocks and corals to block there view and the fact that the maroon doesn't leave my hammer coral( bottom right in tank) and tomato ( top left among month and acros) there is a piece. If my aquascape was very minimal I think the maroon would kill the tomato within days.

I'd asked about ocellaris and clarkiis in a 6' 220, and been advised that it was inadvisable. Not sure whether two extra feet will make the difference . . .

I have found that mixing clown species can be difficult to impossible. I did it once in my last system 120 gallon display with skunk clowns and black ocellaris. The ccellaris would not host the anemone in the tank but the skunk clowns did without an issue which is why I got them. There were never aggression issues until I was taking the tank down and removed the anemones. At that point it was a fight between the clown species. As the skunk clowns lost their home they encountered the ocellaris clowns directly and fighting did not stop until they were removed from the tank. I am sure others have done it before as well but I think there is always some risk when mixing clown species together that it will not work out.
