I'm looking to uprade my aquarium to something larger. I'm currently using a 56 gallon that is about 30" wide. I'm kinda limited on space and want to do at least a 150 ( want to do a few tangs) my question is I see many 50" wide 150s and was wondering if wide is better? I could fit a 6' but it would be tight. I don't want to regret getting something to narrow. How much better is a wider tank thanks

Problem with 50" wide is finding a light that will spread that far to get light to the hole tank (if you plan on putting corals in there)

well what would the full tank dimensions be because a 4ft light on 50 wide would be more than fine

You could do a cube if you have the space out into the room. I am in the middle of setting up and new cube that is 36"x36"x26"tall and it is 140 gallons. plenty of room for a couple tangs.

are your dimensions correct...Length is Left to Right Width Front to back Height Bottom to top.

i have a 150 gallon 48" L x 30" W x 24" H

finding a fixture long enough is not the problem it is finding a fixture to cover front to back. Wen i ran leds i had to go with 4 x ai sol blues prob should of gone 6 to get the great coverage. I eventually ended up going with a sfilgoi xr6 fixture 2 x 400 watt mh that has 4 t5's. I originally ran an 36" ati powermodule 8 bulbs fixture it was perfect ( I wish I never changed)

150 is 60"x24"x30" not sure if they still make them sure they do. Are we forgetting they make 60" bulbs. 48" would work I did a 60" on a 72" 125gal tank.

If your goal is tangs, then I think go with the 6 foot tank. Tangs don't just need a lot of "gallons", they need a long stretch to swim, and for most tangs that get pretty big and are quite active, 6 feet is almost necessary for long term success.

just cause it will fit a space doesnt mean you can put the biggest tank possible...you have to think will you be able to get between the tank and the backwall in case of an emergency (water spill or fish jumps)..if it is too tight will you be able to put the tank in the space from both ends...will you have room to get in between to clean the glass of corraline algae if you use a mag float.....you need room to manuever around the tank.
