Hello,

I'm about to get back into the hobby after a long hiatus. My last tank in 2001 had an Eclipse filter..;Facepalm

Anyways at first I was thinking about an IM AIO. I'm pretty limited to size at the moment so maybe a 25 or 40 gallon. After a lot of research I don't want to go the AIO route. I'd much rather have a sump.

The IM EXT 40 gallon has a nice foot print and I like the height over the EXT 50 lagoon. The issue I have with it is the IM stand for the 40 has internal dimensions of 20.62” x 15.18” x 33.75”. Pretty tight fit. The EXT 50 stand is 26.87” x 19.31” x 33.75”.

I know it seems like splitting hairs but I'm extremely limited by my current home of 900 square feet and a second baby in the near future. I guess the lagoon is only 4 inches shorter but I like the idea of a little more height.

What do you think?

Firstly welcome to R2R it’s great to have you with us!

It’s personal preference but I would always go for the slightly bigger system volume if possible as you have more water which makes things easier as far as water parameters are concerned (stability).

I suppose it’s whichever will look best we’re your putting it

Yeah I'll probably go with the 50. I like the external overflow and doing my own plumbing.
