Currently running a 150 gallon mixed reef with pretty stocked bio load. Just acquired a 75 gallon tank and I am thinking of splitting some of the fish, rock and coral to 75 gallon tank.

Do you think I can pull this off without cycling the 75 or effecting the 150? Pretty much just swapping some out and adding additional water as if it were a large water change to both tanks and in the process transferring some of the fish as well. Thoughts?????

Define "splitting"

In the 75 are you using LR from the 150? Or completely new rock. If new rock allow 75 to cycle for 30days b4 adding substantial fish or coral

In either case, I'd do a 50% water change OUT of the 150. Take that old water and fill HALF of it in the 75. Then topoff both tanks with new SW

Then dont forget to completely top yourself off with 6 bottles of Yeungling beer

Thanks, yes the plan is to use rock as well as water from the established 150 into the new 75 without the addition of any new rock.

If just transferring from tank to another, without anything setting out in the air for very long, should be no problem. Might, might be a small cycle, but that's highly unlikely.
