Tank Stand size?

I'm ordering a 135 gallon (72x18x25) framed glass aqaurium. I plan on building my own stand. The question is can I safely build the stand larger than the dimensions of the tank. Or, does the frame that includes the vertical support have to be directly beneath the tank frame? I understand I would have to use horizontal
 
That's what I thought. So sump size is determined by tank size if its under cabinet.
Also make sure it's large enough to handle water volume in case of power failure. We were told 1/3 DT volume or bigger if possible.

You can definitely make it bigger! As long as your supports are directly under the tank, that’s the most important part
